St. Paul Chiropractors at the Forefront of Providing Conservative Health Care

The lumbar region of the spine is composed of five discs that stretch from the pelvis to the diaphragm (named L1-L5 from top to bottom). This part of the spine is often the most problematic because one of the common forms of back pain, the low back pain (LBP), originates from this area. Some patients are quick to want lumbar surgery to deal with the discomfort, but a recent study showed that there may not be a need for an invasive procedure.

In their study, health specialists in Washington, urged doctors and other medical practitioners to start with a conservative method of treating LBP instead of resorting to lumbar surgery right away. Studying a sample of 1,885 workers in the state, the group found that those 35 years old and below have lower odds of undergoing lumbar surgery. These findings work in favor of chiropractors in St. Paul, Minnesota, who can offer patients pain relief at a price lesser than that of an operation.

The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) supports the call for a more inexpensive way to provide chiropractic care to patients. ACA President Keith Overland, in a press release, said that the association agrees with the practice of offering more conservative methods of chiropractic care before resorting to more drastic ones like surgery. Naturally, this method can only be put into practice if the patient consults with a chiropractic physician first.

Chiropractors from St. Paul, such as those from Capitol Health Center, may offer physiotherapy, corrective exercises, and nutritional counseling, to address problems like a misaligned lumbar disc L4. Patients won’t have to spend extra on surgery if all that LBP needs is a good pair of chiropractic hands.

It should be noted that the study’s findings, in general. support the need for affordable health care. As a kind of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), chiropractic care enjoys lower health care costs , as per a 2012 study in New Hampshire. In fact, the study states that CAM patients pay $424 less for the treatment of spine-related problems than non-CAM patients.

The ACA is encouraging chiropractors to make conservative chiropractic care a priority to reduce health care expenses. It’s a win-win situation for all parties involved. Chiropractors can bring relief to the patient while staying true to their philosophy of conservatism by practicing non-invasive treatments. At the same time, patients will pay less for a low-risk procedure.
